About YardClues
YardClues exists to answer one question: "What is going on in my yard?" A hole that wasn't there yesterday, pellets on the patio, leaves chewed down to the veins, a ring of mushrooms in the grass — every yard produces mysteries, and most of them have ordinary explanations.
What we do
Each YardClues guide focuses on one specific clue and walks through the likely causes the way a knowledgeable neighbor would: what to measure, what to look for, which suspects are common and which are rare, when a clue is harmless, and when it deserves a professional's attention. We compare causes side by side because identification is about ruling things out, not jumping to the scariest answer.
How we put guides together
Our guides are based on commonly documented animal behavior, insect life cycles, and lawn and garden science, written in plain American English for homeowners — not for entomologists. We keep advice conservative on purpose: no risky do-it-yourself chemical treatments, no handling wildlife, and clear pointers to licensed professionals whenever a clue involves safety, health, or your home's structure.
What we are not
YardClues is an educational resource. We can't see your yard, so we deal in probabilities, not diagnoses. We are not a substitute for a licensed pest control operator, certified arborist, wildlife control professional, veterinarian, or physician. Read more in our disclaimer.
